My Next Leap is easy
/Sometimes we should just let go of over-analyzing and listen to our guts.
By Jaime G.
Over the past few years, I’ve learned that the voice deep inside is always there trying to guide us, but we often let our heads take over, trying to rationalize what is the right thing for us in our lives.
I recently accepted a marriage proposal from my boyfriend of a year. Why?
Because our partnership has been easy.
For the first time in my life I’m not pretending that the relationship I’m in is what “should be” and I’m not convincing myself that down the road I’ll find a deeper happiness.
Are there complications? Sure, aren’t there always?
How will I feel dealing with an ex-wife, a stepchild, and living our New York City lives in a 600 square-foot apartment? I haven’t quite figured it out yet, but my gut tells me that it will be ok.
I’ve learned that when it’s time to make a big, life changing decision, a grounding peace needs to exist.
When you know that the foundation of your decision is strong, you can always reflect upon that to get you through any setbacks, complications, or second guessing.
Fear isn’t necessarily a bad thing either.
In my experience, fear is what happens when we think of taking a leap into the unknown. We often come out on the other side energized from taking a chance, or at the very least, we feel we have grown from learning what it feels like from the experience of making that jump.
We all know that when we decide to make a change, we need to have a plan. It’s simply not smart to make your transition and think that things will just fall into place. That plan makes us feel prepared, makes us feel safe, gives us the purpose to move forward.
Do we have a financial goals in order? Check. Do we agree on lifestyle? Check. Do we support each others' careers? Check. And so on and so on.
The key is accept and expect to be flexible with your plan, because we all know that life can take its twists and turns. But the unexpected is what makes the journey so interesting.
Trust your gut. Make your leap. Be flexible. Live life!
