Anyone up for a virtual book club?
/This idea began in the best possible way -- with the first hug of my latest #hugtour around Washington, DC.
(If you don't know what that is, you'll want to start here, because it is too good not to know about and go on them yourself.)
When I met my kind-hearted client Heather at 8:30am two Fridays ago, she handed me this book.
Then there were hugs, foamy frothy yummy coffees, bumping into an old friend of hers and now a new friend of mine, more hugs, and 30 minutes later I went on my hugging way.
I followed up with her a few days later to thank her for the book, and she said that if I let her know when I'm reading it she'll listen along to the audio version that she downloaded.
Well that and a peek at the book jacket was all I needed in order to say yes.
David Brooks is a columnist with The New York Times and this book:
"Challenges us to rebalance the scales between our 'resume virtues' - achieving wealth, fame and status - and our 'eulogy virtues,' those that exist at the core of our being: kindness, bravery, honesty, or faithfulness, focusing on what kind of relationships we have formed."
Kindness, bravery, honesty, our relationships -- isn't that what Simply Leap is about?
Gosh, I hope so.
We will begin our virtual book club by reading Chapter 1 during the week of Feb 29.
(You're on your own with the intro.)
Full disclosure: I haven't opened a page yet so I have no idea what will happen, but I can assure you that when the conversation starts this way it's going to be worth the effort.
This is going to be heady and thought provoking. I'm likely to try to distill any of his big words or concepts into little things I can do now, that feel easier than trying to live up to the perfection of someone he profiles. That's what happens when I read books like this...and if that helps you too, then all the better.
If you're game to read along, comment below, tag @SimplyLeap in a post on your Facebook, Twitter or Instagram pages to gather more friends, or we'll talk about it in the Life Lovers & Simply Leapers Facebook Group too.
There are ten chapters so assume we will cover one each week. (...unless I get bored and suggest something better. What? That's not how you read books?)
If it's useful I'll blog about it -- or maybe you'll blog about it and share it with all of us!
Sometimes great clients give you better assignments than you could ever give yourself. Grateful for that.
Let Heather and I know if you're in for our virtual book club!
And how could I end this post without a hug?! Here are some from my latest tour. Heather and I are in the bottom right corner, and you'll notice that there's a doggie too! My first ever dog on a #hugtour. Please join us for the virtual book club, and hug the people you love!
